I have been using the Breathe Happy filters since the beginning of the pandemic and they work brilliantly. The fit is snug, light and reassuring. There is space to breathe, space for the mouth to speak, and air flow is good; the silicon outer shell does not allow for air to escape around the edges, which can cause glasses and the like to fog up, but moves through the filter. The mask does not slip down below the nose, like fabric and paper masks have the tendency to do. All in all, a great product, and very economically viable, plus good for the environment. I often get people asking me where i bought it, which is always a good sign.
Safety was the main reason I purchased the commuter 98 mask & filters. The mask is easy to wear and clean. It fits snugly to the face. During the worst days of the pandemic, I would never have ventured out, even to the grocery store, without my commuter mask.
Of my 3 older children 1 attends a secondary and 2 are at college. Infections have occurred in their bubbles but with distance, hand gel and these masks, none of my children have contacted Covid. When they come home, the filters are removed and the silicon mask placed into a jug with boiling water until it’s cooled. This sterilises them effectively and with little effort or contact. They can be removed using the head straps only and they are less inclined to touch them during the day or their faces generally, as the snout type design makes them more aware of something being on their face. I personally wouldn’t use the same filter when using for the day so we change daily but even so worth the money for this level of protection.
On the onset of the pandemic/lockdown 1, as with most people, I invested a lot of money in every kind of mask I could get hold of-fabric, N95, surgical masks etc. Just from my own experience, the conference and reassurance I have when wearing the Commuter 98 masks and filter is unrivalled. I have bought for myself and my 6 yr old daughter (a big for her now but certainly my “go to” face mask. All round excellent produce, cost efficient and good for the environment.
I have been using the commuter mask for a few weeks now and I have to say I feel much more secure in this than in a cloth mask (or disposable). It fits really snugly around my nose and mouth and it's flexible enough for this to feel fairly comfortable. Glasses don't fog up at all when I'm wearing it. Breathing is very slightly more effort through the filter (proof that the mask really is pretty air-tight!), which is no problem at all for me but noticeable for a relative in her 70s with weak lungs (it's ok for her just sitting in a taxi, say, but not with any kind of exertion). I feel so much safer going into shops or standing near people who are unmasked when I'm wearing this kind of mask. If you want to protect yourself as well as others, I think this is a really good option.
